RECRUITING NOW – JANUARY 3RD

The Lake Tahoe Derby Dames Roller Derby League is holding an open recruitment night on Tuesday, January 3rd at 7:30pm at Kahle Community Center.  Information on joining the Tahoe Derby Dames as well as an opportunity to skate will be available. We’re looking for energetic men and women interested in learning the sport of flat track roller derby as a skater or referee.

Modern Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby is a growing international sport which includes a mixture of full-contact skating, great athletic training and an awesome grass roots do-it-yourself attitude.  You’ll meet other locals with fantastic names and a great athletic attitude all here in South Lake Tahoe!The Dames offer general training for the new-on-your-skates to the well seasoned derby girl transferring to our great neck of the woods. Practices are co-ed (offering everyone the chance to skate) while bouts follow the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA/www.wftda.com) guidelines.

Equipment borrowing is on a first come/first served. Please bring a mouth guard.

The Hits Keep Coming! Tahoe -vs- Central Coast 8/20/2011.

The Tahoe Derby Dames have won there first two homes bouts this season.  Third on the list are the Central Coast Rough Diamonds.  August 20, 2011 the gates open @ 4, and the bout starts @ 5.

Knock Knock… Derby Calling!

The weather in Tahoe is fabulous and the skating is fast and fierce.  All of the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears have been in preparation for this July 9th bout against the Nor Cal Roller Girls.  This is the second home bout of the season for the Tahoe Derby Dames and guaranteed to be a grudge match like no other.  On the road, away from their fans, the Dames lost by a  narrow margin to this team earlier in the year and they are now looking to capture a win at their home track in front of their fans.  Coming off a win during the June 11th bout, these women are focused and determined to battle their way to victory!

As an appreciation to the amazing fans we are offering $8 pre-sale tickets.  As a skater run organization we couldn’t do what we do without the support of our fans.  Pre-sale tickets can be purchased from any derby girl.  Mark your calendar for July 9th.  Gates open at 4pm and the bout starts at 5pm.  Tickets are $10 at the door and kids 10 and under are free.

Tahoe Derby Dames vs. Mendo – May 14th!

The Tahoe Derby Dames will be traveling to Mendocino County May 14th to skate against the Mendo Mayhem Roller Girls.  With a crop of new skaters and a solid group of veterans the Dames are going to bring home a win!

Looking to show your support for Lake Tahoe’s only flat track derby league by purchasing some of our merch?  If you’re in South Lake Tahoe you can now pick it up at the Road Rash Café, located on Highway 50 near Tahoe Keys Blvd.  Our friends there are stocking our magnets, stickers, t-shirts and beanies, which means you can share the Tahoe Derby Dames love all year round.

First bout of the 2011 season = “Winning”

This weekend the Tahoe Derby Dames had their first bout of the 2011 season against the Redding Angry Beavers up in Redding, CA.  It was an exciting game to say the least, one featuring plenty of roller derby action, hard hits and fast skating.  While Redding started off very strong, leaving Tahoe behind by 29 points at the first half, the Tahoe Derby Dames ended up making it up (and then some) to win 94-88, with the winning points scored in the last two minutes.

While all the bouting skaters played exceptionally well, we were really stoked to see a number of new skaters making their debut – including Kylanator, Whiskey Wheels and Malice N Chains.

With one win under our belts, we’re working hard to make sure that this is the start of a great season.  Looking to catch our next bout?  It will be on April 9th in Chico, CA as we go head to head against the NorCal Roller Girls at the CalSkate in Chico.  Come support your local roller girls  – you won’t be disappointed!

Winter Wonderslam! Rescheduled for March 25th

Come watch the Tahoe Derby Dames battle it out at the first Winter Wonderslam! open scrimmage in South Lake Tahoe, rescheduled for Friday, March 25th at Kahle Community Center.  This family-friendly event will blend the full-contact roller derby action the Dames are known for with their love of philanthropy.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Steven Rose, a friend of the Tahoe Derby Dames who is battling cancer.  In addition orange ribbon pins will be for sale in honor of Steven at the scrimmage.

Event tickets are $5, and kids under 5 are free with a paid adult.  Tickets can be purchased at the event.  Doors open at 7:00 pm and the roller derby scrimmage kicks off at 8:00 pm.  Refreshments will be available at Kahle, and an after party will be held at Brothers Bar & Grill.
